The Strathpeffer Sweet Company Story

How a Sweet Dream
Came True

Sweets Shop!

The Ideal Sweet Location

As a local “lass” I (Lynne) couldn’t help noticing that the pretty, ornamental hexagonal, Victorian pavilion in the central square of our village of Strathpeffer had stood empty for some time, and it often crossed my mind that it would make a superb sweet shop.

I shared my idea with my friend Jane who agreed it was a sweet location, and when my job was threatened with redundancy due to the Covid pandemic we decided to take the plunge and see if our sweet dream would work as a business.

We stocked up with candies and confectionary and opened our doors in December 2020, offering not just sweets for sale but wonderful waffles, ice cream from the local dairy, decadent Belgian hot chocolate, Highland Roast ground coffee from Inverness, hand-made Scottish tablet and many more tempting treats.

Our Story!

Testing the Market in Strathpeffer

Initially we opened only at the weekends, hanging on to our “day jobs” while we tested the market for a sweet shop in Strathpeffer.

We soon found ourselves to be a popular stop for the many visitors drawn to our leafy village, which historically was a renowned Victorian spa resort. It’s got plenty more going for it too, being close to the North Coast 500 road route and surrounded by wooded hills that draw walkers, mountain bikers and golfers.

We also meet a lot of day trippers who come by bus from the cruise ships that dock about 20 miles away in the Cromarty Firth port of Invergordon.

There was no doubt the shop would be successful, so by May 2021 with the Covid restrictions over we decided to open seven days a week and we haven’t looked back.

Meet us!

Meet the Team

We’d be delighted to meet you in person if you find yourself in Strathpeffer. The village is in Easter Ross in the Scottish Highlands, just off of the A834, four miles west of the town of Dingwall.

Should you call in we’ll have the coffee brewed, and you can meet our team:

  • Lynne Reid – co-owner, tablet-maker, and a dab hand at pancakes.
  • Jane Stewart – co-owner, and a talent for creating chocolate bouquets and organising markets and events.

You don’t have to travel to northern Scotland to satisfy your sugar craving, however. We love to share, so we’ve put together a selection of our products that you can buy safely and securely online for postal delivery.
